Saving A Cisco Configuration to Disk with HyperTerminal

    Steps:

    1) Start HyperTerminal and create a new connection.

    2) Select the medium for the connection by selecting either a COM port or TCP/IP

    3) Specify the Connection Properties. Most Cisco equipment uses the following settings:
    9600 Bits per Second
    8 Data bits
    No Parity
    1 Stop Bit
    Hardware Flow Control
If you are having trouble connecting to your device, be sure to consult the manual for appropriate connection information.

    4) Once connected, enter Enable mode by typing "Enable" at the > prompt. You will be prompted for the enable password if one exists.

    5) On many Cisco devices, the command "Terminal Length 0" is valid, and will prevent the configuration file from containing line feeds if your configuration is longer than one screen. Run this command. If it fails, simply proceed to step 6.

    6) From the Transfer menu, select Capture Text. Enter a path and file name for the configuration file. Be sure you know where you are saving the file. Click OK once you have specified the file information to begin text capture.

    7) Enter the command "show run" at the enable prompt. This will begin printing the configuration to the screen, and saving this text to your file. If the Terminal Length command failed, you will have to hit the space bar to page through your configuration. Once finished, you will be taken back to the enable prompt.

    8) From the Transfer menu, select Stop Capture.

    9) Type "Exit" at the enable prompt to leave enable mode before disconnecting the HyperTerminal session.

    10) Verify the file to make sure the configuration has correctly and accurately saved.
